Why the Change is Taking Place
Air India Group has announced a major reorganisation of its domestic services at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, effective from October 26, 2025. The change is being implemented to support the ongoing expansion of Terminal 3 (T3), which is being upgraded to accommodate a larger number of international flights in the coming years. By reallocating domestic flights across other terminals, the airline group aims to reduce congestion and enhance the overall passenger experience.
Air India Flights Moving to Terminal 2
As part of the plan, Air India will transfer 60 of its 180 daily domestic departures to Terminal 2 (T2). To make these flights easier to identify, they will be renumbered into a four-digit series beginning with “1” (for example, AI1737, AI1787). The remaining domestic and all international flights will continue to operate from T3.

Air India Express Relocating to Terminal 1
Meanwhile, Air India Express will transfer all its domestic operations to Terminal 1 (T1), which has recently been upgraded with improved facilities. This move aims to streamline operations and offer passengers a more efficient travel experience.
Passenger Support and Transfers
To ensure smooth connections, inter-terminal transfers will be provided. Baggage for connecting passengers will be transferred airside, while free shuttle buses will run every 10 minutes, linking Terminal 1 (T1), Terminal 2 (T2), and Terminal 3 (T3). Passengers with reduced mobility will also have access to buggy rides between Terminal 2 (T2) and Terminal 3 (T3).
Travel Advice for Passengers
Air India will notify affected travellers via booking confirmations, online check-in, and direct communication. Extra staff in marked uniforms will assist passengers across terminals. Travellers should verify their terminal details before departure on the airline’s website, app, or customer service.
