Audi A5 Makes a Bold Entrance with Electric Influence and Combustion Engine Refinements

The front features digital daytime running lights with LED technology, while the rear boasts second-generation digital OLED rear lights. These taillights boast over 60 segments per panel, transforming them into a display capable of car-to-axe communication and enhanced safety features.

Audi is shaking things up with its model range, implementing a new naming system to differentiate between electric and combustion engine vehicles. Even numbers signify electric power, while odd numbers represent gasoline or diesel. This new strategy coincides with the launch of the completely redesigned Audi A5 family, replacing the outgoing A4 in the mid-size segment.

A Family Affair: A5 Sedan, S5 Sedan, A5 Avant, and S5 Avant

The A5 family boasts four distinct variations: A5 Sedan, S5 Sedan, A5 Avant, and S5 Avant. All models are the first to be built on the Premium Platform Combustion (PPC) platform, signifying Audi’s commitment to high-performance gasoline and diesel engines.

Power with Efficiency: MHEV Plus Technology

The A5 family prioritizes both power and efficiency. The all-new MHEV plus technology, built around a 48-volt electrical system, supports the combustion engine while reducing CO2 emissions. This system enables partially electric driving, translating to lower fuel consumption.

Striking Design Language: Dynamic and Muscular

Audi has prioritized a bold and clean design aesthetic for the A5 family. The extended wheelbase, prominent wheels, and low, sporty build project a sense of progressive dynamism and premium quality.

Sedan or Avant: Tailored Functionality

The A5 Sedan features a unique rear design for this segment. The rear hatch, a first for Audi sedans, seamlessly integrates with the rear window for effortless access to the luggage compartment. The A5 Avant, on the other hand, maintains the classic wagon design with a dynamic roofline that merges with a roof spoiler.

Illuminating the Road Ahead: Digital Daytime Running Lights and OLED Rear Lights

The A5 family incorporates cutting-edge lighting technology. The front features digital daytime running lights with LED technology, while the rear boasts second-generation digital OLED rear lights. These taillights boast over 60 segments per panel, transforming them into a display capable of car-to-axe communication and enhanced safety features.

Technological Marvel: A Blend of Physical and Digital

The interior of the A5 family is designed with a human-centric focus, prioritizing driver and passenger needs. The “Digital Stage” takes centre stage, featuring the Audi MMI displays with a curved, OLED panoramic display and a touchscreen MMI display. An optional head-up display offers further customization and control.

Advanced Hybrid System: MHEV Plus

The A5 family leverages the MHEV plus system to deliver significant reductions in CO2 emissions and fuel consumption compared to traditional MHEV systems. The Powertrain Generator (PTG) enables partially electric driving and recuperates energy during deceleration, allowing for limited electric manoeuvring and parking. The system also features an electric air conditioning compressor that maintains cabin comfort even when the engine is off.

Engine Options for Every Need

The A5 family offers a diverse range of engines, catering to various driving preferences. The options include:

  • 2.0 TFSI (110 kW and 150 kW): This entry-level engine is turbocharged and uses a modified combustion process for improved fuel efficiency.
  • 2.0 TDI (150 kW): This diesel engine utilizes MHEV plus technology for enhanced efficiency and reduced emissions.
  • 3.0 TFSI (270 kW): The S5 boasts a powerful V6 engine with MHEV plus technology for a thrilling driving experience.
  • Precise Handling and Dynamic Character
  • Audi has meticulously refined the suspension and steering of the A5 family, resulting in a precise, effortless driving experience. The optional adaptive dampers allow drivers to tailor the ride between comfort and sportiness.

Market Launch and Pricing

The Audi A5 family is poised to make a splash in the mid-size segment. The A5 and S5 will be available in Germany and other European countries starting in November 2024. Ordering opens in Germany this July, with a starting price of EUR 45,200 for the A5 Sedan TFSI 110 kW.

The all-new Audi A5 family signifies a significant shift for Audi, showcasing their commitment to both electric and combustion engine advancements while prioritizing progressive design, technological innovation, and a thrilling driving experience.
