Audemars Piguet (AP) has released The Watch – Stories and Savoir Faire – an almost 600-page long watchmaking reference book that is part of the brand’s milestone 150th anniversary celebrations. It is “dedicated to the history and the anatomy of the watch” and “pays tribute to the rich tradition of watchmaking and to the artisans and visionaries who have kept the heart of the Manufacture beating for 150 years.”

“I wish this book had existed when I first discovered watchmaking. It’s exactly what I would have given my friends and colleagues – not only as an introduction to mechanical watches, but as an invaluable resource to accompany them on their journey in the field.” – Sébastian Vivas, Director of Heritage and Museum, Audemars Piguet.

“This book is truly one of a kind. It’s the result of an outstanding effort with a clear ambition: to share the world of watchmaking with the widest audience possible. We are delighted to support Audemars Piguet in bringing this knowledge to life. And what better moment to release such a work than the year that marks the 150th anniversary of both our publishing house and the Manufacture?” – Sophie de Closets, Managing Director, Flammarion.

“This book reflects our desire to share the passion that drive us. It lifts the lid on hidden wonders and highlights the unique skills needed to bring a watch to life. Above all, it pays tribute to the generations of individuals that have shaped Haute Horlogerie and the history of Audemars Piguet for 150 years.” – Ilaria Resta, CEO, Audemars Piguet

Our Thoughts
I love horology and timepieces – a passion since I was a child. I equally love books on the same and have put together a decent library in my home. Among these are large “coffee table” books on watchmaking, brand-issued books—many of which were not available for sale —and old catalogues, several of which are so impressive that their respective brands should never have given them away for free. So, when Audemars Piguet – a Holy Trinity brand – unveils The Watch – Stories and Savoir Faire as part of their 150th anniversary celebrations – the book lover in me immediately made a place for it in my home library.

In today’s digital and social media obsessed world – where many access news and other information on their smartphones and tablets (guilty as charged) – books offer a sense of permanence. If well looked after, they will – just like timepieces – outlive their owners. Whether you are a fan of AP or not – if you love horology and appreciate books – The Watch – Stories and Savoir Faire is a must have in your collection.
