Arnold & Son has introduced the Time Pyramid 42.5 Malachite Editions – a three-hand watch with two power reserve indicators – featuring a pyramid-shaped openworked movement set against a malachite disc. Inspired by an 1830s “ornamental precision regulator clock” created by John Roger Arnold – son of the brand’s namesake founder John Arnold – it is available in an 18K 5N red gold or 950 platinum case, both editions limited to 8 pieces each. It joins the lineup of the model that includes a blue aventurine version in both red gold and platinum.
Key Features
Functions and Operations
Hours and minutes indicated on the open dial at 6 o’clock. Seconds indicated on an open dial nestled between the hours and minutes dial and balance spring at 12 o’clock. Power reserve indicators at 3 o’clock and 9 o’clock. Winding and time-setting via the crown at 6 o’clock.
“The architecture highlights the symmetry of the mechanism, reinforced by the presence of two power reserve indicators on either side of the gear train. Their hands point to the arc of markers applied to the reverse of the upper sapphire crystal. These indicators reveal how one barrel transfers its energy to the other when the tension of its spring decreases: while the first barrel is winding the second, its reserve indicator falls while that of the second rises.”
Dial

Open dial displaying the openworked movement. The hours dial is made from white opal. The arrow tips of the hours and minutes hands are coated with luminescent material.
Movement
Powered by calibre A&S 1616, an openworked hand-wound movement that drives the hours, minutes, seconds, and twin power reserve indication. Diameter: 37.60 mm. Thickness: 4.40 mm. Jewels: 27. Frequency: 21,600 vph or 3 Hz. Power reserve: 90 hours provided by two barrels.
Movement finishing: “Main plate: NAC-treated, satin-finished. Bridges: NAC-treated, hand-chamfered, vertical Côtes de Genève stripes. Wheels: golden finish, circular satin-finished. Screws: blued and chamfered, mirror-polished heads.”
Case

Available in 2 editions: 18K 5N red gold and 950 platinum. Diameter: 42.5 mm. Thickness: 10.72 mm (with sapphire crystal). Front side features a domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both sides. Malachite caseback features a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating. Water resistant up to 3 bar / 30 metres / 100 feet.
Both editions come with an imperial green colour hand-stitched alligator leather strap, fitted with a pin buckle (18K 5N red gold or 950 platinum depending on edition).
Our Thoughts

Arnold & Son’s Time Pyramid 42.5 Malachite Editions has been launched today – a little more than a week since the last day of Dubai Watch Week 2025. We were fortunate to visit them and their sister brand – Angelus – at their booth and meet with Pascal Béchu, managing director of both brands. They craft interesting watches – with astronomy, chronometry, and world time as their central themes. I was fortunate to handle the impressive Constant Force Tourbillon 11 Platinum. Featuring both a constant force 1-minute tourbillon and a dead-beat or jumping seconds, it honours the friendship between John Arnold and Abraham-Louis Breguet.
The Time Pyramid 42.5 Malachite Editions will appeal to collectors fascinated by historically inspired watchmaking combined with the positive attributes of a natural stone. With a production run of 8 pieces each for both editions, it also promises rarity. A worthy addition to the brand’s lineup.
