What is the Perpetual Moon 41.5 Red Gold “Year of the Horse?”
Arnold & Son (A&S) has introduced the Perpetual Moon 41.5 Red Gold “Year of the Horse” to mark the Chinese Year of the Fire Horse; the next sign in the Chinese zodiac that replaces the Wood Snake on 17 February 2026. Its gorgeous dial highlights A&S’s artistic and Métiers d’Art capabilities. It is limited to 8 pieces.

What are the dial features?

The dial is made from black aventurine glass. The lower portion represents the landscape; hand painted with gold powder and treated with Super-LumiNova. The moon is crafted from a mother-of-pearl disc and treated with Super-LumiNova. The constellations – “Cassiopeia and Ursa Major” – are hand painted and treated with Super-LumiNova. The horse is made from 18K red gold (5N) and hand engraved.
Why are there two moon phase displays?
While the dial displays the astronomical moon-phase display, the caseback features a secondary moon-phase display for “fast, accurate setting of the lunar age.” It follows the true lunar cycle of 29 days, 12 hours, 44 minutes, and 2.8 seconds, and will “take 122 years for the display to drift by a single day from the actual lunar cycle, provided the watch is kept fully wound.”
How complicated is the movement?

The watch is powered by A&S1512, an in-house manual winding movement that drives the hours, minutes, and precision moon-phase display on both the front and back. It measures 34 mm (diameter) * 5.35 mm (thickness). It is composed of 27 jewels, beats at a luxurious rate of 21,600 vph or 3 Hz, and has a power reserve of 90 hours provided from 2 barrels.
What is the case made from?
The watch is housed in an 18K red gold (5N) case – 41.5 mm (diameter) * 11.67 mm (thickness). Dial side features a domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment on both sides. Caseback features a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment. Water resistant up to 30 metres. Comes with a hand-stitched black alligator leather strap with red alligator leather lining that is fitted to a pin buckle made from 18K red gold (5N).
What we think?

For a brand that excels in chronometry and a penchant for stone dials, the Perpetual Moon 41.5 Red Gold “Year of the Horse” highlights A&S’s creative side. Its Métiers d’Art dial has cultural significance and might appeal to a global audience; not only those celebrating Chinese New Year. Its limited production run of 8 pieces ensures rarity.
