Angelus introduces new editions of the Instrument De Vitesse

This sublime monopusher chronograph is presented in two new dial editions: Indianapolis Blue and Silverstone Grey. Each is a limited edition of 25 pieces.

Angelus has introduced two new editions of the Instrument De Vitesse, both named after famous motor racing tracks. Indianapolis Blue, named after the Indianapolis Motor Speedway (Speedway, Indiana, USA), and Silverstone Grey, named after the Silverstone Circuit (Silverstone, Northamptonshire, United Kingdom). Both editions are a limited edition of 25 pieces each.

Angelus debuted the Instrument De Vitesse a few months ago with the Blanc Ivoire and Noir Ebene editions. Both editions are a limited of 25 pieces each. The Instrument De Vitesse belongs to the brand’s La Fabrique collection of watches, “dedicated to reinterpreting historical Angelus classics.”  The Blanc Ivorie is nominated for the Geneva Watchmaking Grand Prix or Grand Prix de l’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) awards under the Chronograph Category. The GPHG awards ceremony will be held at the Théâtre Du Léman in Geneva on November 13, 2024. The GPHG awards are the equivalent to the Oscars for the world of horology.

“Things are not always what they seem. At first glance, Instrument de Vitesse could be a highly refined three-hand watch. Only its discreet tachymeter scale, printed on the edge of the dial, and its name point us in the right direction: this is a chronograph designed for short bursts, an instrument for measuring average speed over a maximum period of 60 seconds. The purpose of the button on the crown thus becomes clear: a single push-piece that triggers the slender direct-drive central seconds hand.”

Angelus, founded in 1891 in Switzerland, is presently owned by Manufacture La-Joux Perret SA. Both are based in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. Manufacture La-Joux Perret SA is owned by Japan’s Citizen Group. It provides movements for Arnold & Son and Frédérique Constant, also owned by Citizen Group.

Our Thoughts

I was smitten by the Instrument De Vitesse Blanc Ivoire and Noir Ebene editions when they were introduced a few months ago. Its design and aesthetic “just spoke to me.” I feel the same towards the newly launched Indianapolis Blue and Silverstone Grey editions. Both combine a handsome dial with a “no nonsense technical aesthetic” (hence the “Instrument” in the name), slender case size (39 mm * 9.27 mm) and a manufacture chronograph calibre with a historical pedigree second to none – all at a relatively affordable price. What’s not to like? My personal favourite is the Indianapolis Blue version.
