Air India To Deploy Its Flagship Jet On Delhi-London Route

The change will add 336 more seats per week between the two capitals.

Are you planning to fly to London from Delhi in September this year? Well, here’s something you’d want to know. Air India has announced that starting September 1, 2024, it will introduce its flagship aircraft, an Airbus A350-900, on the Delhi-London route. The new jetliner will replace the currently deployed Boeing 777-300ER and Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner on 14 of 17 weekly flights, offering 336 more seats per week on the Delhi-London route.

Air India’s A350-900 will introduce its Premium Economy option for travellers for the first time between the two capitals. It comprises 24 wide seats arranged in a 2-4-2 configuration. Every seat features 38 inches of pitch, 18.5 inches of seat width, an 8-inch recline, leg rest with a foot paddle, and a four-way adjustable headrest. A 13.3-inch HD screen, a universal AC charging port, and USB-A outlets round off the features list.

The A350-900 will fly daily between Delhi and London. The first flight – AI161 – departs Delhi and lands at London Heathrow at 02:45 and 07:30, respectively. The return service – AI162 – leaves London at 09:45 and arrives at Indira Gandhi International Airport at 22:50. If that doesn’t work, another option is to take the AI111, which leaves Delhi at 06:45 and arrives in London at 11:30. The return leg – AI112 – departs from London Heathrow and arrives in Delhi at 13:15 and 02:05 the next day, respectively.

Once the new aircraft is deployed on the route mentioned above, Air India will have upgraded 90 per cent of all its flights to London Heathrow. Earlier this year, the airline introduced recently inducted Boeing 777-300ER jets with new interiors on all its flights between Mumbai and London Heathrow. In the process, it brought back the option of First Class on this route, making it the sole carrier to offer such an option between the two cities.
