What is the new agreement about?

The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi), ADIO, the Integrated Transport Centre (Abu Dhabi Mobility), and VERSA signed an agreement to boost coastal transportation. They plan to introduce Seaglider operations by 2028 to improve mobility and support sustainable growth.

How will Seagliders improve transport?

Seagliders are Wing-in-Ground (WIG) effect craft that operate just above the sea surface. They are fully electric, high-speed, and zero-emission, designed to reduce travel times and environmental impact. Initial routes will connect Abu Dhabi City with the Al Dhafra Region, with plans to expand across the emirate and the wider UAE.

His Excellency Saleh Mohamed Al Geziry, Director General for Tourism at DCT Abu Dhabi, said Seagliders will boost connectivity and support sustainable growth. Dr Abdulla Hamad AlGhfeli, Acting Director General of Abu Dhabi Mobility, said the agreement establishes smart, low-emission services across land, air, and sea. Sheikha Alyazia Bint Sultan Bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, Chairperson of VERSA, said Seagliders reimagine coastal mobility, turning innovation into infrastructure and fostering sustainable progress.
