A More Powerful GR Supra Is Manhart’s Latest Creation

Dubbed GR 550, the tuned sports coupe churns out 550hp/770Nm.

Wuppertal-based Manhart Performance is primarily known for turning go-fast BMWs into supercar-beating speed machines. That said, the tuner’s portfolio has enough examples of projects with cars from other European brands, such as Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Land Rover, Volkswagen and McLaren. But a Toyota? That’s probably something you haven’t heard about before.

Enter the Manhart GR 550. It’s the second spruced-up iteration of the Toyota GR Supra from the German tuner. Where the first one was tweaked to produce 450hp/650Nm, up from the original 340hp/500Nm peak output, the second performance package uplifts those figures further. A turbo upgrade, a new radiator kit with aluminium charge pipe by Wagner Tuning and a carbon intake by ARMAspeed optimise the 3.0-litre six-cylinder engine’s breathing. Topped by a software upgrade and an ECU remap, the end result is a maximum output of 550hp/770Nm. That’s over 61 per cent more power and 54 per cent more torque than the original tune.

Rounding off the powertrain changes is a stainless steel exhaust system by FI Exhaust. It features valve control and four black 100mm tailpipes for a punchy soundtrack. One could combine them with the ECE-approved Manhart downpipes by HJS or sports downpipes with 300-cell HJS catalytic converters. The latter option, however, is only meant for export markets as it doesn’t have TÜV approval. The same holds for Manhart stainless steel OPF delete replacement pipes.

A performance uplift deserves a visual treat as well. That begins with 20-inch Concave One rims, wrapped with 255/30 section tyres at the front and 295/25 at the rear with H&R wheel spacers. The rims sport a gloss black colour, but other finishes are available. Manhart lowers the ride height of the Japanese sports car using H&R springs or the Variant 3 coilover setup by KW.

A carbon body kit accentuates the sporty quotient. It includes a front spoiler, hood inserts, ORVM caps, side skirts, a diffuser, covers for the rear lights and a large rear wing. A Manhart trim set with red accents and black stripes adds a contrasting touch to the white body colour. While the tuner also offers interior customisations and braking system upgrades, the example here retains the original.

So, how would you rate Manhart’s overall efforts here?
