2026 MotoGP Malaysian GP: Marc Marquez Dominates Sepang Ahead of Acosta and Alex Marquez

Marc Marquez won the 2026 Malaysian Grand Prix with a controlled performance at Sepang, finishing comfortably ahead of Pedro Acosta and Alex Marquez.

The reigning World Champion took the lead on the opening lap and gradually built his advantage across the 20-lap race, eventually stretching the gap to 4.5 seconds.

Acosta claimed second after passing Alex Marquez at half-distance, while Alex held on to complete the podium despite late pressure from Marco Bezzecchi.

Marquez Leads the Opening Lap

Marc and Alex Marquez immediately fought for position on the run to Turn 1.

Marc emerged ahead through the opening corner, briefly lost the lead on the following straight, then quickly reclaimed first place.

Enea Bastianini also made a strong start and climbed to fourth, although he dropped back to sixth by lap two.

Further down the order, Augusto Fernandez, standing in for Toprak Razgatlioglu at Pramac, suffered a minor early incident that briefly brought out yellow flags.

Ai Ogura held fourth through the opening laps before Bezzecchi found a way through on the final straight.

Acosta Applies Pressure to Alex Marquez

By lap three, Acosta had closed onto Alex Marquez.

He repeatedly moved into attacking range through the opening section but struggled to complete a pass on the straights.

Alex, meanwhile, remained close to his brother at the front, initially running only a few tenths behind.

Marc began to pull away gradually.

By lap six, the gap had grown to around half a second. Three laps later, it had reached 1.5 seconds.

Joan Mir retired during this phase after reporting that he was not feeling well enough to continue.

Acosta Takes Second

Acosta finally found the opportunity on lap 10.

He passed Alex Marquez to move into second and immediately became Marc’s closest challenger.

Alex then came under pressure from Bezzecchi, who closed in as the fight for the final podium place developed.

At the front, however, Marc continued to extend his margin.

The Ducati rider remained clear of trouble while Acosta consolidated second.

Ogura and Bezzecchi Fight for Fourth

The main battle in the closing stages developed between Ogura and Bezzecchi.

Ogura began applying serious pressure around lap 15 and narrowly avoided a major incident during an early overtaking attempt.

He regrouped and attacked again on lap 17.

The two riders made contact while both bikes were leaned over, with Ogura’s front wheel touching the right side of Bezzecchi’s machine.

Ogura nevertheless completed the move and took fourth.

Diogo Moreira also had a brief off-track moment during the second half of the race, running through the gravel without falling before rejoining.

Marc Marquez Wins Comfortably at Sepang

Marc Marquez remained untouched at the front.

By the final laps, his advantage over Acosta had grown to 4.5 seconds.

He crossed the line first to secure another MotoGP victory, with Acosta second and Alex Marquez third.

Ogura finished fourth after his late move on Bezzecchi.

The race was decided less by one dramatic moment than by Marc Marquez’s ability to steadily increase the pressure once he had reclaimed the lead.

He controlled the opening laps, absorbed the early challenge from his brother and then built a margin Acosta was never able to recover.

Sepang ultimately became another measured victory for Marquez.
