Yamaha has unveiled the R7 BLU CRU race bike for the 2027 FIM Yamaha R7 BLU CRU World Cup, replacing the current R3 model after six seasons in the championship. The new motorcycle will become the standard race machine from the 2027 season, providing competitors with a more powerful platform.
What is the 2027 FIM Yamaha R7 BLU CRU World Cup?
The FIM Yamaha R7 BLU CRU World Cup is a one-make motorcycle racing championship organised through a collaboration between Yamaha Motor Europe, the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) and the Dorna WorldSBK Organisation.
The championship began in 2021, aimed at identifying, supporting and developing young racing talent through a structured pathway towards professional competition. The championship received FIM World Cup status in 2024.
What is new about the Yamaha R7 BLU CRU race bike?
The Yamaha R7 BLU CRU will replace the R3 as the championship’s standard motorcycle from 2027. Based on the latest-generation R7 introduced for the 2026 model year, the race bike uses Yamaha’s 689cc, liquid-cooled, parallel-twin CP2 engine. All competitors will use identically prepared R7 motorcycles, ensuring a common platform and a level playing field for all participants.
The R7 platform has already shown its racing potential in the inaugural 2026 FIM Sportbike World Championship, where Carter Thompson of Team BrCorse secured multiple podium finishes and two race victories.
What changes does the R7 BLU CRU receive over the standard R7?
The Yamaha R7 BLU CRU is prepared specifically for the championship, with dedicated racing equipment and Yamaha Racing branding. However, Yamaha has not published a specification of the motorcycle, such as its race-specific components, concerning suspension upgrades, braking hardware, electronics, exhaust systems and other performance modifications remain unconfirmed.
How much does the 2027 Yamaha R7 BLU CRU championship package cost?
Yamaha has announced a full season package which costs about €29,000 for the 2027 championship. The package includes the use of a race-prepared Yamaha R7, racing leathers, tyres, fuel and race entry fees.
The 2027 championship will begin with a pre-season test at Cremona in Italy, followed by six rounds at European WorldSBK venues.
