Kawasaki Versys 900 Debuts: Z900-Based Sport-Tourer With Radar Tech

Kawasaki has unveiled the 2027 Versys 900, a Z900-based sport-tourer with a 948cc inline-four engine, radar-based safety features and touring-focused equipment.

What is the Kawasaki Versys 900?

The Kawasaki Versys 900 is a new middleweight sport-touring motorcycle introduced for 2027. It is based on the Z900’s super naked platform. The Versys 900 is positioned as a performance-oriented alternative to the Versys 650 while sitting below the larger Versys 1100.

Kawasaki describes it as the most sporting Versys yet, blending the family’s long-distance versatility with the character of a 900cc-class inline-four engine.

How much power does it make?

The Versys 900 uses a 948cc liquid-cooled, four-stroke inline-four engine inspired by Kawasaki’s Supernaked Z models. The engine produces about 120 hp of peak power at 9,500 rpm and 97.3 Nm of peak torque at 8,000 rpm.

What is the biggest new feature?

The biggest new feature of the 2027 Kawasaki Versys 900 is its radar-based Advanced Rider Assistance Systems (ARAS). The ARAS package includes front- and rear-facing radar sensors to monitor the traffic around the motorcycle. It also offers Adaptive Cruise Control Lite, Forward Collision Warning, Blind Spot Detection and an Emergency Stop Signal.

What other rider aids are offered?

Along with its radar-based ARAS package, the 2027 Kawasaki Versys 900 comes with a comprehensive suite of electronic aids, supported by an IMU that measures lean angle, acceleration, and orientation in real time.

The motorcycle’s rider aids include Kawasaki Cornering Management Function, Kawasaki Traction Control, Enhanced ABS, Power Modes, Integrated Riding Modes and the Kawasaki Quick Shifter.

What is the chassis like?

The 2027 Kawasaki Versys 900 uses an all-new steel trellis frame, developed specifically for this model. The frame has been designed to provide an ideal rigidity balance rather than simply maximising stiffness.

How touring-focused is it?

The Versys 900 incorporates long-travel suspension to suit its sport-touring and uneven-road focus. At the front, it gets a 41mm inverted telescopic fork with adjustable preload and rebound damping, while the rear uses a horizontal back-link monoshock with adjustable preload and rebound damping.

The sport tourer rides on 17-inch wheels at both ends, shod with a 120/70-ZR17 front tyre and a 180/55-ZR17 rear tyre, fitted with Metzeler Roadtec 01 rubber.

What technology does the dashboard offer?

The 2027 Kawasaki Versys 900 gets a five-inch full-colour TFT display. The instrument cluster displays essential riding data clearly while also supporting navigation and smartphone-based connectivity.

Riders can toggle between two different display layouts. One layout prioritises performance-related information such as revs and engine data, while the other gives greater prominence to navigation and vehicle information.

What is the design theme?

The 2027 Kawasaki Versys 900 follows Kawasaki’s Aero Edge design concept. The styling is intended to create a sense of lightness and fluidity, as though air is flowing through the motorcycle’s bodywork.

What variants and colours are available?

Kawasaki offers the 2027 Versys 900 in two main versions: the standard Versys 900 and the more equipment-rich Versys 900 SE. The standard Versys 900 is available in Metallic Spark Black and Pearl Robotic White, and the SE is offered in Plasma Lime Green with Metallic Spark Black and Firecracker Red with Metallic Carbon Grey.

When will it launch, and what will it cost?

Kawasaki has confirmed that the 2027 Versys 900 and Versys 900 SE will go on sale in the UK from April 2027. In the UK, the standard Versys 900 is priced from £10,899, while the Versys 900 SE costs £11,799.
