Mazal has now launched what it describes as the UAE’s first escrow-protected marketplace dedicated to premium Dubai number plates. It brings listings, live auctions, valuations and protected transactions into one platform, addressing the less glamorous business of making sure everyone actually receives what they paid for.
Why Are UAE Number Plates So Expensive?
Scarcity, prestige and personal significance make a potent combination. There are plenty of exotic cars to choose from; but a particular plate number and code is unique. Short numbers, memorable patterns and meaningful combinations give collectors something distinctive to pursue.
The appetite for fancy number plates has proper precedent. Abu Dhabi’s number 1 sold for AED 52.2 million in 2008. Dubai’s P7 reached AED 55 million at a charity auction in 2023, setting a world record. That is quite a budget for something offering absolutely no improvement in performance.
According to Mazal’s market assessment, Dubai records approximately 55,000 premium-plate transactions annually, with around 20% annual growth and AED 1.7 billion in market value recorded over three years. These company figures illustrate the opportunity it sees.

How Does Mazal’s Escrow Protection Work?
Trading has traditionally involved independent brokers, social-media listings and manual ownership transfers. When substantial money changes hands, trust becomes an expensive requirement.
Mazal takes custody of plates before they become available for trading. Its published process requires sellers to transfer ownership to Mazal’s traffic file before listing.
Once a deal is agreed upon, the buyer’s funds are held securely in escrow: a holding arrangement that keeps payment locked until the transaction’s conditions are met. Funds are released only after official ownership transfer is confirmed.
That sequence is the platform’s central attraction. Buyers get a defined route from agreement to ownership, while sellers have confirmation that funds are secured. Transguard also provides cash collection for customers choosing that payment method.
Placing A Value On A Few Digits
Mazal assesses plates using transaction history, demand, rarity and number patterns. The aim is to give both sides a clearer basis for negotiation, rather than leaving an asking price to instinct alone.
Its launch included a live secondary-market plate auction, alongside auctions of premium Mazal IDs. A partnership with TASC will support recruitment of Emirati talent as the business grows.
