What is the Royal Enfield Himalayan 440?
Royal Enfield has launched its new entry-level adventure motorcycle based on its 440 platform. It is the second model based on the brand’s 440 platform. The Himalayan 440 is described as the spiritual successor to the now-discontinued Himalayan 411, embodying a simple and rugged design.
The Himalayan 44o has the classic Himalayan silhouette with its upright stance, high front fender, compact fuel tank and minimal bodywork.
What engine and gearbox does it have?
The new Himalayan 440 uses a 443 cc, air/oil‑cooled, single‑cylinder, long‑stroke unit, which makes 25.4 bhp @ 6,250 rpm and 34 Nm of torque @ 4,000 rpm. The engine is paired with a 6-speed gearbox that transfers power to the rear wheel.
The new 6-speed gearbox is an immediate upgrade compared to its predecessors; the addition of the extra cog will allow the engine to stay relaxed at highway cruising speed, reducing overall NVH levels.
What frame, suspension and braking hardware does it use?
The new Himalayan 440 is built around a half-duplex split-cradle frame designed to balance rigidity and flex for off-road riding. Suspension duties are handled by a telescopic front fork with 200 mm of travel and a rear monoshock with 180 mm of travel. The motorcycle offers a ground clearance of 220 mm, aiding in obstacle clearance on rough and unpaved roads.
Braking hardware features a 300 mm front disc and 240 mm rear disc. The braking system comes with dual-channel ABS with the ability to switch off the rear ABS for off-road riding.
What features does it offer?
The Himalayan 440 is offered with a semi-digital instrument cluster with an analogue speedo and a digital inset which displays necessary rider information such as fuel level, time, trip distance and total mileage, while the analogue needle shows speed.
It also comes with a Tripper Navigator system, a small navigation module that mounts near the digital instrument cluster which pairs with a smartphone app to provide turn‑by‑turn directions.

The Himalayan 440 is priced at Rs 2.29 lakh (ex‑showroom, India). At this price point, it undercuts many mid‑capacity adventure motorcycles and sits close to entry‑level rivals, making it one of the most accessible 400cc ADVs on the market.
