Despite being refreshed in 2024, Mercedes found that this is the right time to give GLE Coupé a revamp that include a fresh design, a tweaked interior, and updated powertrains.
What changes have been made to the engine and performance?
The updated Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupé offers a range of updated engines, including petrol, diesel, and plug-in hybrid variants, which are designed to provide improved performance while retaining refinement. While the engine performance can vary across the range, the updated variants can produce between 270 BHP and over 500 BHP, while the torque can range from 400 Nm to 700 Nm.
The electric-only range of over 100 km under standard test conditions allows for short daily trips without using the internal combustion engine. The various driving options have been designed to meet existing and future emissions regulations.
How advanced are the driver assistance and safety systems?
The vehicle is equipped with a range of sensors to monitor its environment. These sensors include up to 10 cameras, five radar devices, and 12 ultrasonic sensors. These systems enable various functions, such as adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assistant, and parking assist.
The parking assistant can now perform parking manoeuvres at speeds of up to 5 kmph and it is supported by a computing system that processes data to aid in driving decisions.
What technology upgrades can be found inside the cabin?
The interior of the vehicle is equipped with a new digital concept based on the MBUX Superscreen. It consists of three 12.3-inch screens connected to form a single glass screen.
An upgraded voice assistant can respond to more complex voice commands and can even have conversational interactions. The infotainment system utilises a main operating platform, enabling software enhancements and feature additions even after purchase through over-the-air updates.
What design and comfort updates have been introduced?
The exterior design includes changes to the front grille, lighting, and wheels. The rear section includes redesigned taillights with a new pattern inside.
The interior includes synthetic leather upholstery and new trim materials. The vehicle includes a panoramic sunroof with a transparent section of over one square metre.
The air quality is maintained through a multi-stage filtration system, including the elimination of particulate matter and odours. The suspension system, such as E-ACTIVE BODY CONTROL and optional air suspension, adjusts damping and ride height depending on road conditions, with calculations performed up to 1,000 times per second.
How does the lighting and suspension technology improve usability?
The new DIGITAL LIGHT technology uses micro-LED technology to improve illumination range by 40 percent while cutting power consumption by up to 50 percent. The high beam range is up to 600 metres, even on dark roads.
The suspension system has also been designed to accommodate road irregularities such as speed bumps, allowing for adaptation through individual wheel control. This has also been enabled through cloud-based data, allowing the vehicle to prepare for upcoming conditions on the road, providing comfort to drivers and passengers alike.
Pricing, availability, and launch
The new Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupé is said to be rolled out in various markets around the globe and is expected to be delivered throughout 2026, depending on location. The new car is likely to be priced from around USD 105,000 with prices escalating for other versions, such as those with more powerful engines and hybrid versions.
Other features such as advanced driver assistance, lighting, and digital features are likely to be offered through additional packages, depending on what a buyer wants, and may also vary depending on local regulations and specifications.
