BA111OD introduces a new classic dress watch

The Chapter 8 Baillod Family Legacy Special Edition is inspired by a late 19th century pocket watch. It is presented in two versions: Soft Gold PVD and Stainless Steel.

What is the BA111OD Chapter 8 Baillod Family Legacy Special Edition?

The two versions of the Chapter 8 Baillod Family Legacy Special Edition pay tribute to the Baillod family’s 250 years of watchmaking heritage in the Canton of Neuchâtel, Switzerland. They are inspired by a family pocket watch from the late 19th century (left on header image).

“Two and a half centuries of history are not an end point. They are a foundation. This legacy does not dictate our future; it gives us the momentum to keep creating freely, with rigour and independence, in respect of what has been passed down, without ever standing still.” – Thomas Baillod, Founder of BA111OD.

What are its dial features?

Both versions of the BA111OD Chapter 8 Baillod Family Legacy Special Edition.
Left: The “warm and expressive” Soft Gold PVD version (same as header image) . Right: The “pure and timeless” Stainless Steel version. Both versions are the brainchild of Liliane Murenzi, the brand’s Senior Designer.

The Inner dial features a sunburst and guilloché motif finish. Small seconds subdial at 7 o’clock features a sunburst finish and a railway style seconds track. Printed Roman numerals and a railway style minute track grace the outer dial. Soft Gold PVD version has black hands, and Stainless Steel version has blued hands.

Is the case made from stainless steel?

Image: Notice the satin-brushed and polished finish of the case, concave bezel and rounded lugs. The design of the crown at 4 o’clock is inspired by the late 19th century Charles Baillod pocked watch. The guilloché motif on the dial is inspired by the engraved decoration of the pocket watch. I love the blued hands on the Stainless Steel version.

Yes. Both versions feature a case made from 316L stainless steel, satin-brushed and polished. The Soft gold PVD version’s case features soft gold PVD treatment (0.5N). It measures 41 mm (diameter) * 12.75 mm (thickness, with crystal), 48 mm (lug-to-lug distance) and 20 mm (lug width). Dial side features a domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both sides. Caseback features a sapphire crystal. Water resistant up to 5 ATM or (approximately) 50 metres.

Both versions come with a black leather strap with crocodile-style embossing and fitted with a double-folding deployant clasp. An easy strap exchange system enables the wearer to change straps easily.

Is it powered by an automatic movement?

Image: Notice the engravings on the caseback. The Soprod C110 is a dependable movement, easily serviceable by qualified watchmakers worldwide.

Yes. It is powered by the Soprod C110, an automatic movement that drives the hours, minutes, and small seconds. It beats at a modern rate of 4 Hz or 28,800 vph and has a power reserve of (approximately) 42 hours.

What do we think?

Classical dress watches are my favourite genre of watchmaking. When done right, there is nothing quite like them, at least to my eyes. Based on images and supporting information, the Chapter 8 Baillod Family Legacy Special Edition seems impressive. Both versions are a compelling choice for collectors, enthusiasts, and just literally anybody (not necessarily collectors or enthusiasts) seeking a well-made and versatile daily wear watch. I look forward to seeing them in the flesh.
