Bentley Unveils The Continental GT S And GT Convertible S With Hybrid Power And Chassis Technology Upgrades

Bentley has launched the fourth generation of the Continental GT S and Continental GT Convertible S with a new hybrid power unit.

Bentley has further diversified its Continental lineup with the addition of the Continental GT S and Continental GT Convertible S models. The new cars sit between the standard Continental models and the GT Speed models in the lineup and pair the hybrid power unit with a chassis technology package that was previously only available on higher-end models.

What powertrain does the Continental GT S use?

The Continental GT S and GTC S are powered by Bentley’s High Performance Hybrid powertrain, which develops a total of 680 PS with 930 Nm of torque available to the wheels. This is an increase of 130 PS over the previous generation GT S. This powertrain also enables the car to accelerate from 0-100 KMPH in 3.5 seconds, with a top speed of 306 KMPH. It also enables the car to go electric-only for up to 80 km, in line with Bentley’s move towards electrification.

How is the chassis and handling on this vehicle different from other Continental models?

Both S models feature the Bentley Performance Active Chassis, which was previously reserved for the GT Speed and GT Mulliner. This includes an active all-wheel-drive system, torque vectoring, adaptive twin-valve dampers, a 48V active anti-roll system, and new electronic stability control software. For the first time on a Continental GT S, an electronic limited-slip differential and all-wheel steering are also included, providing a wider scope of handling characteristics.

What driving modes are available?

The revised electronic stability control system adjusts the degree of driver involvement according to the chosen driving mode. With stability systems enabled, traction control is employed to prevent wheel slip. In “Dynamic” mode, some rear axle slip is permitted to fine-tune cornering characteristics. It is also possible to deactivate stability systems entirely to control the car manually, especially in a closed or track environment.

How is the exterior visually distinguished?

The Continental GT S models have design features included within the Blackline Specification, which visually identify the cars. These features consist of gloss black exterior trim, dark-tinted lighting, black badging, sports exhaust finishers, 22-inch ten-spoke alloy wheels, which are standard, with other finishes available as an option, and full LED matrix headlamps with Bentley’s Precision detailing, which is also used on the GT Speed, further distinguishing the S models from other trims.

What interior features make the S models unique?

Inside, the Continental GT S features a unique two-tone upholstery layout with a unique fluted seat design, which is exclusive to the model. Dinamica technical fabric is used on high contact areas such as the steering wheel, seats, and door panels, while Piano Black veneer is used as standard, with other upgrades such as carbon fibre, alternative veneers, full leather, and dark-tint chrome detailing on metal components being available as an option.

Pricing, availability, and launch details

Bentley’s new Continental GT S and Continental GT Convertible S models are now available to order from the company’s international dealership network. Pricing will vary according to market and specification, and the final cost will depend on the level of optional equipment chosen, as well as tax. Deliveries will be made later this year, and the new models will add to the existing range of Continental cars from Bentley, this time featuring hybrid performance and chassis upgrades rather than pure luxury or performance capabilities alone.
