Dublin-based Avolon has ordered a new fleet of Airbus aircraft. The deal includes 90 jets, with 15 A330neo and 75 A321neo. As a result, the lessor’s order book for these two aircraft types increases to 79 for the A330neo and 264 for the A321neo. This brings the total to 343 Airbus aircraft. When considering the entire A320neo family, the total rises to 413. Of these, 125 are with Avolon, leaving 358 still to be delivered.
Avolon had struck a deal to purchase 100 Airbus A321neo jets in December 2023 and 20 Airbus A330neo aircraft during the 2023 Paris Air Show. The lessor didn’t take much time to place a new order for the same two aircraft types. That’s because, according to its research, both are in “high demand”.
The Airbus A330-900 is powered by Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines, offering a range of 7,200 nautical miles (13,300 km) without requiring a refuelling stop. Moreover, the airliner provides a 25 per cent reduction in fuel burn, CO2 emissions, and operating costs compared to the previous generation aircraft. Avolon was the launch customer for the Airbus A330neo in 2014. Currently, it has 33 aircraft of this type in its fleet.
On the other hand, the Airbus A321neo is the largest member of the A320neo family. Thanks to its improved aerodynamics, the A321neo offers a 50 per cent reduction in noise footprint and 20 per cent fuel savings compared to the previous generation narrowbody jet.
