Garmin Dash Cam X310 Tested

If you’re in the market for a sleek, high-performing dash camera that doesn’t clutter up your windshield, the Garmin Dash Cam X310 might just hit the sweet spot. I spent a month testing this compact 4K unit across multiple vehicles and came away impressed by both its image clarity and smart features. From its glare-reducing optics and built-in GPS logging to optional cloud connectivity and multi-cam syncing, the X310 is designed to quietly but confidently document every moment on the road.

The Specs

The Garmin Dash Cam X310 is a compact yet powerful 4K dash camera designed to deliver razor‑sharp footage. It captures ultra HD video with a wide 140-degree diagonal field of view and incorporates Garmin’s Clarity HDR optics plus a built‑in polarizing filter to minimize distracting glare from your windshield keeping crucial details like license plates, street signs, and road markings crisp and visible, both in the day and in the night.

Measuring just about 7 × 4.22 × 1.95 cm and weighing only 78 g, the X310 is unobtrusive and nearly invisible behind your rearview mirror. It mounts via a low‑profile magnetic bracket and features a 2.4‑inch color TFT touchscreen (480×272 pixels) on the back. This display allows for immediate playback, quick access to settings, and simple navigation yet it turns off while driving so it doesn’t distract you.

Under the hood, the camera supports up to 120 fps at 1080p (or 30 fps at 4K) and logs data with built‑in GPS and Galileo support. It automatically tags each video with location, date, and time, and its G‑sensor ensures incident clips are locked and saved even if you miss them.

While functionality is impressive out of the box, advanced features require Garmin’s optional Vault subscription. These include remote Live View, automatic cloud upload via Wi‑Fi, and Parking Guard notifications that alert you if your parked vehicle is impacted. You’ll need constant power (via an optional hard‑wire cable), and Wi‑Fi access for these services to work.

The X310 supports syncing up to four Garmin dash cams via the Garmin Drive app. You can view synchronized recordings from different angles, use the Travelapse trip‑highlight tool to condense long journeys into shareable summaries, and power your phone or another device with the extra USB port included on the dual‑USB adapter that comes in the package.

What’s In the Box

In the box for an MSRP of $399.99 you get the main device, the Garmin Dash Cam X310, a low profile magnetic mount, a 13 ft vehicle power cable, dual-USB power adapter, and device documentation. For purposes of testing, I requested a Garmin Dash Cam Universal Suction Cup Mount which retails for $24.99.

Tested

Since I get press loaner vehicles for many weeks of the year I requested the universal suction cup mount mentioned above, so I could easily move the dash camera from vehicle to vehicle. All in all, I tested the dash camera in four different vehicles for about a month.

I put the dash camera in the vehicles and drove around my local town and even took it on a mini road trip in the month testing to a beach town.

Testing a dash camera is quite awkward as you don’t want anything too crazy to happen to yourself, but you’d still like to capture something unique to show off what it can capture. Fortunately, nothing really happened to me besides someone pulling out of a parking lot, crossing across three lanes, to stop directly in front of me.

Final Thoughts

Garmin Dash Cam X310 brings together 4K video, glare‑reducing optics, GPS logging, and safety alerts all packed into a small touchscreen unit. It’s a solid pick for drivers wanting detailed, reliable footage, with the option to expand into cloud-based features and multi‑camera setups if desired.
