Air India To Fly A350 Aircraft From Delhi To New York And Newark

Once deployed, 60 per cent of all Air India flights to the USA will feature new or upgraded interiors.

Those planning a trip to the USA this winter, here’s something you should know. Air India has announced that it will deploy the newly inducted Airbus A350-900 on two routes from Delhi – New York JFK and Newark. Flights from India’s capital to New York JFK commence on November 1, 2024, whereas those to Newark start on January 2, 2025. Introducing the new A350-900 will offer the option of Premium Economy for the first time on both routes. The aircraft features 24 seats in the said section in a 2-4-2 configuration.

Flight AI101 will depart Delhi and land in New York JFK at 02:20 and 07:35, respectively. The return leg – AI102 – will leave New York at 12:30 and arrive at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport at 11:40 the next day. Air India will follow this routine daily. 

Between Delhi and Newark, Air India’s A350-900 will ferry passengers five days a week. The outbound service – AI105 – will fly out of Delhi at 04:00 and arrive in Newark at 09:10. Those flying the other way will board flight AI106, which will depart from Newark and land in Delhi at 11:15 and 11:30 the next day, respectively.

Besides the new Airbus A350s, the revived Air India flying experience on routes to the USA is also offered on upgraded aircraft. The carrier operates daily services between Mumbai and New York JFK on a thoroughly revamped Boeing 777-300ER. The aircraft has a three-class configuration, comprising eight First Class suites, 40 full-flat beds in Business and 280 seats in Economy. Flight AI119 leaves Mumbai at 01:40 and lands in New York JFK at 07:40. The return flight – AI120 – departs New York and lands in India’s financial capital at 11:55 and 11:55 the next day, respectively.

Another upgraded Air India’s Boeing 777-300ER ferries passengers between Mumbai and Newark thrice a week on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. Flight AI191 departs from Mumbai and lands in Newark at 01:45 and 07:55, respectively. The return leg – AI144 – leaves Newark at 12:05 and arrives in Mumbai at 12:10 the next day.

Air India has also upgraded Boeing 777-200LR aircraft to feature a three-class configuration. There are 28 full-flat beds in Business Class, 48 seats in Premium Economy, and 212 seats in Economy. The aircraft is operated between Delhi and San Francisco daily (flights AI173 and AI174). Another specimen serves passengers four times weekly between Mumbai and San Francisco (flights AI179 and AI180). Air India also operates an upgraded 777-200LR thrice weekly between Bengaluru and San Francisco (flights AI175 and AI176).

Since the beginning of 2024, Air India has taken delivery of six Airbus A350-900s. One of them will serve passengers on the Delhi-London route starting in September of this year. A total of 34 A350 family aircraft, including 20 A350-1000s, are on order from Air India.
