Air India Reveals Smart New Interiors Of A320 Fleet

Equipping new aircraft with the latest design language inside out is one thing. Retrofitting the existing fleet to maintain harmony is another. Air India, under new ownership, has not shared much about the latter until now. The carrier has revealed details of the snazzy new interiors of its A320neo fleet.

The airline’s Airbus A320neo aircraft will boast a three-class cabin, splint amongst Business, Premium Economy and Economy sections. In fact, Air India has already refitted two A320neo family jets, registration codes VT-RTW and VT-RTZ, with the new interiors. They feature eight Business Class seats, each with a 42-inch pitch, a 7-inch recline, an adjustable armrest, footrest and backrest, a tray table that’s deployable at the push of a button, an extendable PED (Personal Electronic Device) holder and multiple charging ports.

The next section has 24 Premium Economy seats, each with a four-way headrest, a 32-inch seat pitch, a 4-inch recline, a USB charging port and a PED holder. Passengers in this class will also get more meal options, served on upgraded crockery and cutlery. Lastly, there are 132 seats in the Economy section. Those feature a 28-29-inch seat pitch, a 4-inch recline, a tray table, a PED holder, a USB charging port and a coat hook.

Besides the new seats and layout, the narrowbody jets feature cabin mood lighting with predefined illumination programs during different times, such as take-off, landing, meal service and for celebrating India’s national days.

Air India has introduced a Premium Economy section on its single-aisle aircraft for the first time. The airline says it plans to introduce the three-class configuration to its entire full-service single-aisle fleet over the next year.

A question arises – when can travellers experience all of the above? The answer is July 1, 2024. Here’s the list of flights on which the retrofitted aircraft will serve passengers.
