The new 2025 Acura MDX has dropped with big beats and a big screen

The aggressive MDX has Bang & Olufsen to match the volume of its face

I absolutely loved the last MDX Type-S I drove. It was bright blue with red-faced gauges in sport mode. The thing had beans. Stab the throttle and the big blue went like a stabbed rabbit. I had trouble finding anything wrong with it, until I tried to use touch… nope. It wasn’t a touchscreen. Acura seemed to have listened to me because they’ve ditched it.

Ditching the non-touchscreen isn’t the only upgrade for 2025. Upfront you’ll notice more aggressive styling to match the top-of-the-line Type-S, which will also have the Advance Package available that unlocks more technology and a ‘banging’ Bang and Olufsen stereo. Acura is touting the stereo as the most powerful audio system yet with 31 speakers and a total of 1,760 watts of power. Thirty-one speakers?! I’m imagining an entire speaker as the interior and when you realize there are 12 tweeters alone in the headliner, it just might be.

The aggressiveness is framed on the A-Spec by the front fascia with a frameless “Diamond Pentagon” grill, new grill mesh, and blacked-out treatments. The Type-S gets an open-surface mesh to aid in providing more air to the V6 turbo and out back with a rear diffuser, quad exhausts, 21” wheels, and red Brembo calipers.

With pricing starting at $50,900 for a base FWD MDX, you’ll need another fourteen grand ($74,950) to get the Type-S with Advance Package to get the AcuraWatch 360 with its front-facing cameras, millimeter wave radar, Active Lane Change Assist, Lane Collision Mitigation, and Front Cross Traffic Warning.

Personally, the last MDX I drove was the top-of-the-line Type-S and I found the lane change assist a bit aggressive. The car itself sounded amazing and was quick for its size. It had all the Honda/Acura magic in a big three-row SUV. That being said, I’d opt for the Type-S and ignore or turn off the nannies.
