Roger Dubuis Excalibur MB Titanium – Do You Dare to Wear?
Roger Dubuis just launched the new Excalibur Monobalancier in Titanium which is a first for the brand in using this material and is unlike some of the other models in the collection due to it's lighter colour tone. Read through to check it out!
The title says it all, this watch brand is not for the faint-hearted, it’s for those who dare to wear, for those who are looking for differentiation and for those looking for art on the wrist. Something that Jean-Marc Pontroue referred about the brand quite a few years ago while he was the CEO.
Roger Dubuis was started in 1995 with the ideology of providing something different for watch enthusiasts and it did that through the Skeletonised watches. Roger Dubuis has maintained a reputation by being one of the first to launch skeleton mechanical movements as well as producing some of the finest Tourbillon movements. Each watch was unique in the essence that the parts were hand-made and assembled, rather than resorting to skeletonizing a pre-existing movement. The timepieces are created in limited editions ranging from just 1 to around 200. Currently, there are 4 collections within the brand namely Excalibur Spider, Hyper Watches, Knights of the Round Table and of course, the hero of this article is from the Excalibur line. The Excalibur line was the first one to be launched by the company and in later years, has become the flagship collection.
This month, Roger Dubuis launched a new timepiece in the Excalibur collection which is made in the naturally soft, yet durable, comfortable and lighter (33% lesser than stainless steel) material – Titanium Grade 5. This is the new Excalibur Monobalancier (MB) Titanium.
Just look at that dial, it’s pure class!
The dial is 42mm in size with a sapphire crystal over the dial as well as caseback and supplemented with anti-reflective (AR) coating. This watch is powered by the in-house movement, RD720SQ which is an automatic skeleton with a micro-rotor that can be seen on the top-left of the dial. That micro-rotor along with the star at the bottom-right gives the dial an edge and character.
As with all Roger Dubuis watches, this one also comes with the Geneva seal or also known as Poincon De Geneve (For the uninitiated, check out this website: https://www.poincondegeneve.ch/fr). The movement is self-winding and provides 72 hours of power reserve as well as comes with increased precision and improved durability. You can also take it for a swim if you are up for it as it comes with 100m water resistance.
The watch has white gold hands that light up in the dark due to Super-LumiNova, and this is also seen with the brand name as well as grey triangular hour markers. The dial is equally balanced with a striking bracelet also made of titanium, and while the dial has a premium matte metallic sheen, the bracelet comes with a shiny polished touch. The brilliant workmanship is also seen on the bracelet with the shortened links, especially with the central ones that seem to be constantly in motion due to this slight modification and making the wearability comfortable.
The bracelet comes with a triple folding buckle that showcases the logo once buckled and is easy to use due to the Quick Release System (QRS). Overall, the watch is much more subtle in terms of colour compared to the other models in the collection, however, the titanium model just exudes elegance with practicality and in the dark, it lights up like a jellyfish.
