BMW XM Launched In The Middle East

The PHEV packs 653hp/800Nm, enough for a 0-100kmph sprint time of 4.3 seconds.

Rejoice! BMW has finally introduced its first-ever plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV) in the Middle East. It’s the XM. The SUV first broke cover in September last year. Like the mid-engined M1 from the 1970s, the XM hasn’t borrowed much from the existing crop of BMW vehicles. That’s why the Bavaria-based brand describes the SUV as a standalone M model. The XM can be booked via authorised showrooms across the region.

The XM gets its kick from the combination of a 4.4-litre, twin-turbocharged V8 and an electric motor. BMW says the total system output is 653hp/800Nm, harnessed by an 8-speed automatic transmission. Also, the XM packs an active all-wheel-drive system. That ensures most of the available oomph helps in propulsion. As a result, the BMW XM claims a 0-100kmph sprint time of 4.3 seconds. Like all fast BMW cars, the top speed is electronically limited to 250kmph. However, one could get it raised to 270kmph with the optional M Driver’s package.

One could drive the XM on electric power alone. In that mode, the SUV makes do with a single electric motor that produces 197hp/280Nm. The WLTP-certified range is 88km, and the top speed is 140kmph. Backing the electric motor is a 25.7kWh battery. The battery can replenish itself from zero to 100 per cent in about 4.25 hours when using a 7.4kW AC charger.

As you’d expect, the list of features is extensive. It includes 23-inch alloy wheels, the “Iconic Glow” kidney grille, powered seats with memory function, Comfort Access, a Bowers & Wilkins sound system, wireless mobile charging and four-zone automatic climate control. The BMW Curved Display, which incorporates a 14.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, is also part of the package. And yes, the XM packs bucket-loads of safety features and driver assistance systems, including Parking Assistant Plus, Active Cruise Control, Lande Control Assistant and Driving Assistant Professional.

The BMW XM does possess that boldness to force onlookers for a second glance. At least, that’s what I think. What about you?
