BMW India Drives In The New X7
The refreshed flagship is available in two M Sport variants.
Earlier this month, BMW India launched the new 7 Series. Those who want a similar recipe but in an SUV form can opt for what the brand has launched today. It’s the refreshed X7, available for buyers in two M Sport variants – xDrive40i and xDrive40d. While the former comes with a price tag of INR 1.22 crore, the latter, at INR 1.245 crore, is INR 2.5 lakh dearer. The new X7 will be assembled locally, at BMW India’s Chennai plant.
Let’s talk powertrains first. The BMW X7 xDrive40i M Sport has the same engine as the BMW 740i. That’s a 3.0-litre, turbocharged six-cylinder unit that offers 381hp/520Nm. In the mix is a 48-volt mild-hybrid system that aids the internal combustion engine, at certain times, with an additional 12hp/200Nm. The job of harnessing all the oomph and feeding it to all four wheels is handled by an 8-speed automatic transmission. BMW says that with this setup, its flagship SUV can hit 100kmph from a standstill in 5.8 seconds. The top speed is 250kmph.
The other option is the diesel-powered BMW X7 xDrive40d M Sport. That comes with a turbocharged 3.0-litre, six-cylinder engine that outputs 340hp/700Nm. Here too there’s a 48-volt mild-hybrid system, offering the same support as the one does to the petrol-powered derivative. And yes, an 8-speed automatic handles transmission duties with the oomph going to all four wheels. The diesel variant can complete the standard sprint in 5.9 seconds and clock 245kmph flat out.
In terms of features, both variants have the exact same list. It includes adaptive two-axle air suspension, remote engine start, launch control, cruise control, multiple drive modes, 21-inch alloy wheels and an interior trimmed with fine-wood ‘Fineline’ black with metal effect high-gloss. Other features, such as five-zone automatic climate control, automatic tailgate operation, a panoramic glass roof, soft-closing doors, a 16-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, are also part of the package.
