This limited edition Ford GT is a track-only 800hp supercar with a $1.7m price tag

Ford has revealed the final edition of its Mk IV GT and it’s not your run-of-the-mill supercar.

It represents the greatest the brand could possibly make, in the form of a track-only machine that produces 800hp from its 3.5-litre twin-turbocharged V6 EcoBoost engine.

Accompanying all this extra power (roughly 200hp more than the road car), Ford has added a racing transmission, an aero-focused exterior design, and chassis with a longer wheelbase for greater on-track handling.

Mark Rushbrook, global director at Ford Performance Motorsports, said: “The original GT Mk IV held nothing back for max track performance, and the new Ford GT Mk IV brings it in the same way.

“With an even higher level of motorsport engineering and performance, plus a completely new carbon fibre body that is functional and striking, the Mk IV is the ultimate sendoff of the third-generation supercar.”

But what makes this particular special edition even greater is its casual nod to Ford’s motorsport history which began with the 1967 Ford GT40 Mk IV which won the Le-Mans 24-hour race all those years ago.

The connection between these two cars,  other than in their DNA, is that Ford will build just 67 examples of the 2023 model – at $1.7 million a pop. Yep, that’s right, this limited edition GT will set you back as much as Koenigsegg Gemera or a McLaren Elva with the full MSO treatment.

This isn’t a car for the faint-hearted, and with less than 70 being built for the track only, it’s unlikely you will ever see one in the metal.
