2025 Singapore GP: Russell Takes Victory, McLaren Crowned Constructors’ Champions

George Russell delivered a commanding performance to claim victory at the 2025 Singapore Grand Prix, as McLaren sealed the Constructors’ Championship.

Lights Out in Singapore
As the five red lights went out, Russell launched cleanly from pole on the medium tyres, holding off Max Verstappen on the soft compound into Turn 1. Behind them, McLaren’s two drivers battled for third place, making light contact but continuing without major damage.

Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, starting seventh, gained two places in the opening laps to move into fifth. Elsewhere, contact between Isack Hadjar and Oliver Bearman caught the stewards’ attention, though no further investigation was deemed necessary.

By Lap 10, Russell had established a five-second gap to Verstappen, setting a strong pace in clear air. Esteban Ocon reported brake issues on the team radio, while Norris clipped the wall around Lap 14, asking his engineers to check for damage.

Five laps later, the leading group of drivers made their pit stops, led by Max Verstappen at the front of the pack.

Russell Controls the Race
The race settled into rhythm through the middle stages, with Russell managing his tyres and maintaining his advantage over Verstappen. On Lap 45, Nico Hülkenberg spun but managed to rejoin without triggering a Safety Car.

In the closing laps, Norris began to close in on Verstappen for second place, but the Red Bull driver held firm, fending off the McLaren to secure the runner-up spot.

After 62 gruelling laps, George Russell crossed the line to claim his and Mercedes’ second victory of the year.

Post-Race Update
Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton received a five-second time penalty for repeated track limit infringements during the race, dropping him from seventh to eighth. As a result, Fernando Alonso was promoted to seventh.
