As the five red lights went out in Mexico City, Norris made a clean getaway from pole position. Behind him, Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton went side-by-side into Turn 1, while Max Verstappen ran wide but rejoined having gained a place. Leclerc briefly snatched the lead after running off-track but Norris snatched back his position.
Further back, Lance Stroll spun and dropped down the order to 18th, setting the tone for a lively opening phase.
By Lap 6, the fight for the podium intensified as Lewis Hamilton and Verstappen went wheel-to-wheel, with slight contact between the two. George Russell joined the fray, forcing Hamilton to lock up and use the escape road. The real opportunist, however, was Haas rookie Oliver Bearman, who capitalised on the chaos to climb to fourth.
Hamilton’s off-track excursion earned him a 10-second penalty for gaining an advantage. After serving it during his pit stop around Lap 20, he rejoined in 14th, while Verstappen advanced into third.
At the halfway mark, Norris and Leclerc controlled the race comfortably, with Bearman impressively holding third until Verstappen’s pace eventually told.
The closing stages saw little drama until Carlos Sainz retired just two laps from the end, prompting a brief Virtual Safety Car. When the chequered flag waved, Norris crossed the line comfortably ahead of Leclerc, who narrowly fended off Verstappen for second.
With this result, Ferrari regained second place in the Constructors’ Championship, while Norris’ consistency propelled him past teammate Oscar Piastri into the lead of the Drivers’ standings.
Verstappen completed the podium, Bearman claimed an outstanding fourth for Haas, and Piastri finished fifth ahead of Mercedes duo George Russell and Andrea Kimi Antonelli. Hamilton salvaged eighth after his penalty, rounding off a challenging afternoon for the seven-time champion.
