Real life view of the DBX

Now I am not talking about their Valkyrie or any of their supercars. What I am talking about is the DBX, their performance SUV.

I got to witness the DBX up close and personally in Oman, and my colleague got to see it in Dubai. I spent some time walking around it and observing it. However, on the flight back from Oman to Dubai, all I could think of was how this car is going to be relevant to Aston Martin and how is it going to stand up against the competition.

The next few days the internet was filled with articles about the Aston Martin DBX so I decided to wait a while and then put my I put my thoughts down in a more precise manner.

The DBX enters a very crowded space where there is a performance SUV available for every price bracket and customers spoilt for choice. With the Rolls Royce Cullinan and Lamborghini Urus at one end and then Porsche Cayenne and Maserati Levante Trofeo somewhere down the line followed by multiple offerings from Germany and America.

Here is why I think the DBX is the most important car that Aston Martin has built-in it’s entire history.

All the other brands share platforms with some of their sibling brands; however, Aston Martin is the only one that does not share its platform with any other brand. So technically you have a completely exclusive car which is hand-built. If not anything else this is sure an ace in the hole at cocktail party trump cards.

The factory in which the Aston Martin DBX is going to get built on was an old Air Force base from World War 2 it does not get cooler than that.

It has a V8 from the Vantage which is specifically tuned to produce 550 PS and does 0-100 kph in 4.5 seconds. Now it may not be the fastest performance SUV; however, it may be the coolest.

Aston Martin has even tuned the exhaust specifically for this car. It is going to be more refined but yet sporty enough.

The entire car can be customised entirely that means from interiors to the exteriors they all can be built as per your specifications except for Rolls Royce, Bentley and Lamborghini no other brand offers this service.

I think the DBX looks good it’s got a charming, edgy vibe around it’s pretty aggressive looking in real life. It has the traditional Aston Martin front face with the traditional massive Aston Martin grille. It is beautiful and pointy like a shark, and the back is so derived from the Aston Martin Vantage that you will never mistake this car for anything else other than an Aston Martin. The Vantage looks very sexy from the back, so this car does look very sexy all around.

I see this car having a broader appeal. People who were more apprehensive of buying the Aston Martin brand earlier will likely take a stronger look at the brand right now and most probably would be convinced that they can buy this car. It is perfect for your everyday run to work, to drop your kids to school. To go on adventure trips, especially because you can raise and reduce the right height depending on your driving situation and it does have a limited-slip differential as well.

I can see this car doing a school run or showing up for a black-tie event after going off-roading. This multitasking ability is what makes this car unique. The DBX can blend the everyday grind into something more unique, and it will cater to an audience that has never bought the Aston Martin brand before.

I think this was the right move by Aston Martin. Customers want SUVs and customers want performance SUVs, so why not give it to them? Look at what it has done for the other brands.
