Porsche Cayenne Gains Third E-Hybrid Variant

With an ‘S’ in its nameplate, the new PHEV slots between the standard and the Turbo E-Hybrid derivatives.

Earlier this month, Porsche debuted the Turbo E-Hybrid variants of the new Cayenne. While many want a piece of that, not everyone can afford the V8-powered PHEV. Another option with a dual-engine configuration is the Cayenne E-Hybrid, which is plenty for most. However, Porsche thought there was still room for a third E-Hybrid variant. Enter the Cayenne S E-Hybrid, available in both body styles.

The Cayenne S E-Hybrid gets its kick from a turbocharged 3.0-litre mill and an electric motor. The internal combustion engine produces 349hp, whereas the electric motor generates 174hp. Porsche claims a total system output of 512hp/750Nm, about 48hp/100Nm more than the Cayenne E-Hybrid. As a result, the Cayenne S E-Hybrid can hit 100kmph from nothing in 4.7 seconds (0.2 seconds quicker) and clock 263kmph flat out (9kmph more).

The electric motor gets its juices from a 25.9kWh battery, which can be charged with up to an 11kw AC feed. That means the battery can replenish itself entirely in less than 2.5 hours. Of course, the combination offers a pure electric drive as well. According to Porsche, the Cayenne S E-Hybrid can travel up to 90km without emitting local emissions.

As far as the features list is concerned, it includes adaptive air suspension with 2-chamber and 2-valve technology, 20-inch Cayenne S wheels and an exhaust system with two twin tailpipes finished in brushed stainless steel. In SUV form, the Porsche Cayenne S E-Hybrid dons the Silver exterior package. The Coupe version, on the other hand, flaunts a Black exterior package. The list also includes matrix LED headlights, eight-way adjustable seats, Porsche’s Sport Chrono package, stainless steel pedals, and Apple CarPlay support. The options list is where buyers will find features such as HD matrix LED headlights and a screen for the front passenger.

Porsche is already accepting orders for the Cayenne S E-Hybrid, with deliveries set to commence in November 2023.
